One of India's largest protected areas, home of the Great Indian Bustard.
Spread across more than 3,000 square kilometres of dunes, scrub and salt flats, Desert National Park protects the Thar as it has been for centuries.
With a guide and a jeep you may see chinkara gazelles, desert foxes and birds of prey, and, with great luck, the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard. Fossil beds at Akal show that this was once a forest.
